Help! My new kitten won't use the litter box consistently - any tips?

Hey everyone, I'm at my wit's end with my 4-month-old kitten, Mochi. She keeps peeing outside the litter box, usually on rugs or in corners. I've tried moving the box to different spots, using different litters, and cleaning it daily. She uses it sometimes but then just... doesn't. Any advice from fellow cat owners? I'm worried she'll never get the hang of it!

Ugh, I feel your pain. My cat Mr. Whiskers was the same way - so fussy! What finally worked for me was getting an ENCLOSED litter box. He likes his privacy apparently lol. Also, try Dr. Elsey's Cat Attract litter - it's pricey but worth it. And make sure you're using an enzyme cleaner on those accident spots, otherwise they'll keep going back. Good luck!

Not a cat person but I had similar issues leash training my puppy! Consistency is key - maybe try putting Mochi in the box after meals and naps? Positive reinforcement with treats when she uses it right helped my doggo. Also, have you taken her to the vet? Sometimes it's a UTI or something medical. Just a thought from a dog mom!

Seconding the vet check! My cat Bella had box issues and it turned out she had crystals in her urine. Also, how many boxes do you have? The rule is one per cat plus one extra. Even with one cat, two boxes in different locations might help. Some cats are picky about sharing with themselves, go figure. And yeah, enzyme cleaner is a must - Nature's Miracle works great.

Different world with reptiles but enclosure setup is everything for us too. Maybe the box is too small? Or the litter hurts her paws? My beardie won't use his area if the substrate isn't right. Try a bigger box with softer litter? Also, keep food and water far from the box - cats don't like to potty where they eat. Hope that helps!
