Hey everyone, desperate dog parent here. My 2-year-old German Shepherd mix destroys EVERY toy I buy him within minutes. I've tried rubber balls, plush toys with 'tough' stitching, even those 'indestructible' ones from pet stores. He finds the weak spot and shreds them. I'm tired of wasting money and worried he might swallow pieces. Any recommendations for toys that can actually survive a power chewer? Budget is flexible if it actually lasts!

I feel your pain! My Akita Kuma is the same way - he treats toys like they're made of tissue paper. Here's what's worked for us:
1. Goughnuts MaXX - it's a black rubber ring (black means it's their toughest grade). Kuma's had his for 8 months and only minor teeth marks.
2. West Paw Zogoflex toys - specifically the Hurley bone. They're recyclable and have a 1-year replacement guarantee if your dog destroys it.
3. Kong Extreme - the black rubber ones, not red. Stuff with frozen peanut butter and it'll keep him busy.
Avoid anything with seams or weak points. Also, supervise with ANY toy, no matter how 'indestructible' they claim.

lol my cats are fussy but at least they don't demolish stuff! My sister has a pitbull with similar issues tho. She swears by those solid rubber chuckit balls - the ones without any holes. Her dog cant get a grip to tear them. Also, have you tried antlers? Not technically toys but my sisters dog chews them for hours and they last forever. Just make sure theyre split so they dont crack teeth.

Not a dog person (I keep reptiles) but my roommate's lab is the same. He actually uses stuff from the hardware store - solid rubber plumbing parts (food-grade silicone gaskets) and thick hemp ropes tied in knots. Way cheaper than pet store toys and surprisingly durable. Just make sure whatever you get is non-toxic and too big to swallow. Also, maybe your dog needs more mental stimulation? Our lab stopped destroying everything when we started doing daily puzzle feeders.

Thanks everyone! Alice - ordering the Goughnuts right now. Chris - antlers are a great idea, I'll look for split ones. Larry - never thought about hardware store finds, but that makes sense. I'll try the puzzle feeder too - maybe he's just bored. Really appreciate all the suggestions! Will report back on what survives the beast.
