Hey everyone, just brought home a 10-week-old Doberman puppy (named Thor!) and need some gear advice. Looking for a good harness that won't chafe as he grows, a sturdy leash, and maybe a crate for training. He's gonna be big, so I want stuff that'll last. Any specific brands or types you've had success with? Also, should I get a wire crate or one of those plastic travel ones? Thanks!

Congrats on the new pup! For Dobermans, I'd recommend a front-clip harness like the Freedom No-Pull - helps with leash training since they can be strong pullers. My lab mix uses one and it's a game-changer! For leashes, get a 6-foot nylon one with a padded handle, your hands will thank you later. Crate-wise, wire crates are better for ventilation and you can add a cover for coziness. Make sure it's big enough for him to stand and turn around when full grown!

Welcome to the big dog club! I have an Akita so I feel your pain with finding durable gear. Skip the cheap pet store harnesses - they'll break in months. Ruffwear and Kurgo make awesome harnesses for large breeds. For crates, I prefer heavy-duty wire ones with double latches (escaping is a sport for smart dogs lol). And get a leash with a traffic handle near the clip for extra control in busy areas. Post pics of Thor!

Thanks both! VetVicky746 - good point about the front-clip, I've heard Dobermans can be stubborn on walks. AkitaAlice406 - I was looking at Ruffwear actually, their webmaster harness looks solid. Quick question: should I get an adjustable harness now or buy multiple sizes as he grows? Also, any thoughts on crate mats? My cat (Mr. Whiskers) is already judging all my purchases from his perch...
