My 3-year-old Bengal Luna used to love her sisal scratching post, but out of nowhere she stopped using it about two weeks ago. Now she's scratching my couch again! I got her a new post thinking maybe she was bored of the old one, but no luck. She's acting normal otherwise. Anyone know why cats suddenly lose interest in their scratching posts? Help!

This is actually pretty common! Cats can lose interest in scratching posts for several reasons: the post might have worn out, the texture changed, or something in the environment scared them while they were using it. Try moving the post to a different location - maybe near where she's currently scratching. Also, try catnip spray or silvervine to rekindle her interest.

Same thing happened with my Maine Coon! Turned out he associated the post with something negative - my other cat was ambushing him there. I got a second post and put it in a different room. Now he uses both. Maybe there's territorial drama going on?

Quick note: sometimes sudden avoidance can indicate pain. If your cat jumps less or seems stiff, she might have arthritis making the post uncomfortable. Worth a vet check just to rule out. Otherwise, try different materials - some cats prefer cardboard, others like carpet or sisal. Rotate them!
